New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi condoles over the death of Mulayam Singh Yadav, the Samajwadi Party founder and the former Chief Minister of UP. PM said that Mulayam’s death causes pain to him. He also shared a long heart touching post on his Twitter page.
PM wrote “Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav Ji was a remarkable personality. He was widely admired as a humble and grounded leader who was sensitive to people’s problems. He served people diligently and devoted his life towards popularising the ideals of Loknayak JP and Dr. Lohia”.
Due to physical ailments, he had been away from all public functions since months. Mulayam, who won the Lok Sabha seat from Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh, has died as a Parliament Member. He was the CM of UP three times during the terms of 1989 to 1991, 1993 to 1995 and 2003 to 2007.
“Mulayam Singh Yadav Ji distinguished himself in UP and national politics. He was a key soldier for democracy during the Emergency. As Defence Minister, he worked for a stronger India. His Parliamentary interventions were insightful and emphasised on furthering national interest”, said the PM
Among the Samajwadi workers he was known by the name of ‘Netaji’ . He has been the member of the Lok Sabha for seven times and was there in the legislative assembly for eight years.
During the tenure of 1996 to 1998, he served as the Defence Minister in the Deva Gowda and Gujral cabinets.
Modi also written that “I had many interactions with Mulayam Singh Yadav Ji when we served as Chief Ministers of our respective states. The close association continued and I always looked forward to hearing his views. His demise pains me. Condolences to his family and lakhs of supporters. Om Shanti”.
