Kasaragod: Babiya, the godly crocodile, believed to be 77 years old, died in the lake temple Ananthapuram. Babiya found dead in the temple lake last night.
Babiya was a special crocodile, led a divine, vegetarian and friendly life. People made offerings to Babiya for the fulfilment of their wishes. Babiya used to take food that offered by the temple every morning and afternoon after poojas. She never disturbed other living creatures in the lake.
It is believed that Ananthapadmanabha Swami temple of Kasaragod is the origin of Sree Padmanabha Swami temple, Thiruvananthapuram. Tidings of yester years tell that a British officer shot and killed the crocodile in the lake in the year 1945 and within a few days, Babiya appeared in the same temple lake.
No other crocodile in the world might have got such a farewell as Babiya received today.
Several people took to twitter to express grief at Babiya’s death.
