Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala University Vice Chancellor has challenged Governor Arif Mohammed Khan by calling for special senate on 4th November. The meeting has been arranged as per the request from a CPM senate member. Vice Chancellor has given notice to all 15 senate members, who were removed by the Governor, citing that they have failed to discharge their duties and responsibilities.
The VC had given a letter to the Governor, explaining that the Governor does not have the right to remove senate members and hence, the order should be withdrawn. But the Governor’s reply was to implement his order at the earliest. Following this, the VC had made a new move for conducting a special senate.
Arif Mohammed Khan had removed those 15 members who abstained from the meeting to select the search committee representative for appointing the VC. The members, including two CPM activists, abstained from the meeting so as to protect the vested interest of the State Government. The Governor had removed 15 senate members by using his powers as the Chancellor.
