Bengaluru: The Government increased the SC/ST reservation in Karnataka. The reservation of the SC (Scheduled Caste) has been raised from 15 to 17 percent and the ST (Scheduled Tribe) reservation from 5 to 7 percent. The ordinance regarding this was approved in the assembly meeting held last day. The reservation is applicable for Government jobs and education.
The news was announced by the Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai through his Twitter page.
He wrote “Today my cabinet has taken an historic decision of approving the ordinance on hiking the reservation for my brothers and sisters from SC/ST community, ½”.
“From 15% to 17% and 3% to 7%. This historic decision will bring light and shine into their lives and uplift them by providing adequate opportunity in education and employment”, he added
Earlier, the Karnataka SC had people from six castes and now it has widened to 103, said the cabinet member J C Madhu Swamy. He also said that the population has also increased and hence it is essential to consider them.
