New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Rishi Sunak who was elected as the first Indian-origin Prime Minister of Britain. He also said that he wants to find solutions to global problems together. The Prime Minister also extended Diwali greetings to Indian citizens in the UK.
Born in Punjab, Sunak’s ancestors migrated first to East Africa and then to Britain. Rishi Sunak was born in Southampton, Hampshire in 1980 to Yashvir Sunak and Usha. He studied at Oxford in Britain and Stanford in the US. He entered politics through the Conservative Party in 2014 and became the Foreign Minister in 2015. He also served as Treasury Chief Secretary during Boris’ tenure. His wife is Akshata, daughter of Infosys founder chairman Narayanamurthy.
