Chennai: V. Balakrishnan, Coimbatore Commissioner has informed that UAPA has been imposed on the accused in connection with suicidal bombing held in Coimbatore. The culprits targeted communal violence. Around 20 people had already been interrogated and the investigation is going on, said the Commissioner.
Some of the accused who are in custody, had visited Kerala earlier. Enquiry to know the reasons for their visit to the State is in progress. Police informed that the arrested include those culprits who had been interrogated by NIA in 2019. Another suspect Mohammed Dhalha, is the son of Al Uma leader Basha’s brother Nawab Khan.
Others who are under custody are Mohammed Asharuddin, Mohammed Riyas, Firoz Ismail and Mohammed Nawas Ismail. The Commissioner also informed that explosive chemicals including potassium, charcoal and aluminium powder were recovered from the houses of the accused.
Security has been beefed up in Coimbatore city. Rapid Action Force is being deployed in several parts of the city. Inspection will be held in the public areas too.
