Thiruvananthapuram: Raj Bhavan has today sent notice to the Vice Chancellor of Sree Narayana Guru Open University P M Mubarak Pasha and the VC of Digital University Saji Gopinath. The notice has been sent as it is found that the appointments were made not on the basis of the recommendation of a search cum selection committee as prescribed in the UGC regulations but on the recommendation of the government.
The notices served to the two VCs ask to explain before 5 pm on 4 November as why their appointments should not be treated as void ab initio. Earlier similar notices were served to nine Vice Chancellors. The notice explains that the Supreme Court ‘s verdict is applicable for the other VCs too.
The Governor had asked to tender resignations to the VCs if the appointment is not on the basis of the recommendation of the Government. For this, the Governor had given time till 11.30 am last day. But as the Vice Chancellors denied the notice, the Governor was forced to serve notice.
Meanwhile, the VCs are planning to give reply to the notice as they got setback from High Court too.
