Chandigarh: Customs seized 379 gram of gold worth Rupees 20 lakh which was tried to smuggle through Shaheed Singh International Airport, Chandigarh. The accused was a passenger from Dubai.
The customs officials blocked the passenger on suspicion. Following this his baggage was checked and found golden rods which were coated with silver. These were hidden inside the steel strip of the trolley bag. The officials informed that the illegal gold which was tried to smuggle to India was seized.
As the authorities are taking strong actions against the smugglers, they are trying different methods for the smuggling through the airports in the country. They are mainly using Jackets, Emergency Lights, belts, strips of baggage, etc for smuggling.
