Thiruvananthapuram: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that the North-East monsoon will begin today. IMD reported that the rain will arrive today in the southern part of India and will reach Kerala by tomorrow. The monsoon is initially experienced by Tamil Nadu.
From tomorrow onwards, heavy rain is expected in the state. A yellow alert is issued in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam and Palakkad districts. There is no ban for fishing.
Last year, with a record rainfall, the state received 109 percent of extra rainfall. State is expecting heavy rain in this year too.
