New Delhi: The Supreme Court has banned the two-finger test of rape victims. The test was another form of sexual assault, observed the court and also asked the Centre to issue strict instructions not to conduct such tests. The two-finger test is a method of testing the virginity of a victim of rape by inserting fingers into the sexual organ and to check the strength of the muscles.
The judgement was declared by Justice D Y Chandrachud. While considering the rape case, the court gave strict instructions not to conduct two-finger test. The court has also directed to file a case against those conducting such tests.
The court said that by conducting the two-finger test, women who were victims of rape were being re-victimized for the same crime. Such tests have no scientific basis. It is a violation of human dignity. It can cause physical and psychological trauma to the victim. The Top Court came with strict instruction as the two-finger test is repeating despite SC’s order that had pronounced earlier.
