Kozhikkode: The police enquiry report on the death of Sindhu, a 42 year old woman, has revealed the serious medical errors of the Kozhikkode Medical College Hospital. Sindhu, native of Koodaranji, lost her life after being administered the wrong injection.
The tragic incident happened on 27 October. Sindhu’s relatives alleged that she was admitted in the hospital with fever and she died because of medical negligence. But the hospital authorities had denied the allegations.
Sindhu’s relatives filed a complaint and the Medical College Police started probe on this. The enquiry report alleges that the injection with severe side effects was administered to Sindhu without any precautions.
The shot was given by a nursing student. After administering the injection, the nursing student moved to another patient. She was talking over the mobile phone. There was no doctors or nurses to supervise the patient. And when the bystanders informed about Sindhu’s discomfort after administering the injection, the Head Nurse replied them that it was very common in patients.
The hospital had no antidote too. As per the rule, there should be two doctors in the ward. A doctor reached only after 20 minutes. Sindhu was too tired by then. Another doctor was called and he checked only the pulse beat and left the place, says the report.
The report revealed that no move was made from the part of the hospital to save Sindhu.
