UAE: The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority has announced that internet calling can only be done through 17 VoIP apps approved by the UAE. If the law is violated, the punishment is imprisonment and a fine of 20 lakh dirhams according to the Cyber Act.
There will be severe punishment for those who make internet calls through illegal means. Websites that create illegal systems will be blocked. Etisalat and Doo have also been instructed to block such sites and apps.
85% of the UAE population is expatriate. They depend on free internet calling audio and video apps to call home. But the authority said that they are bound to follow the law governing internet calling in the country.
The approved VoIP apps in UAE are Microsoft Teams, Skype (Business), Zoom Blackboard, Google Hangouts Meet, Cisco WebEx, Avaya Space, Bluejeans, Slack, Botim, HIU Messenger, Voiko, Etisalat Cloud Talk Meeting, Matrix, Two Talk, etc. UAE has banned internet calling using VPN.
