Kozhikode: The court rejected the plea of Muslim League leader K M Shaji for the money seized by the vigilance. The petition was dismissed by the Kozhikode Vigilance Court. Shaji demanded the return of half a crore of rupees seized from his house in Kannur. Shaji’s lawyer informed that he will approach the High Court in case the petition is rejected.
The Kozhikode Vigilance Unit seized more than 47 lakh rupees from the house. Shaji argued in the court that one lakh rupees belonged to his brother-in-law and the remaining amount was the election fund. Many documents were submitted to the court to substantiate this. But the vigilance court clarified that the money cannot be returned.
Initially, a vigilance investigation was started against Shaji in connection with the Plus Two bribery case. Meanwhile, a special investigation was started in the case of illegal acquisition of property. A raid on a house in Kannur was part of this. Half a crore of money was seized during the inspection.
