Bengaluru: National Investigation Agency raids in Hubli and Mysore in Karnataka. NIA raided the house of SDPI leader Ismail Nalaband and former secretary of the banned organization Popular Front, Sulaiman, in Hubli.
The central government banned the Popular Front for the next five years following the discovery of terror funding. The NIA conducted nationwide raids on the residences and key centers of the Popular Front leaders. The ban came after this. As part of the raid, 106 Popular Front workers were in custody and 247 people were arrested.
Even after the ban, many Popular Front workers were arrested. The NIA was later able to arrest many absconders. According to reports released by the Ministry of Home Affairs, about 1,300 criminal cases were registered against Popular Front workers in various states. Many of these cases are under UAPA.
