Thiruvananthapuram: The Vice Chancellors have finally given reply to the show cause notice issued by Governor Arif Mohammed Khan. VCs of 10 universities have submitted their explanations. Raj Bhavan will go through the replies in detail and further procedure will be taken thereafter.
The Governor had asked the Vice Chancellors to resign from their posts as it was found that the appointments were contrary to the provisions of the UGC regulation. But the Vice Chancellors denied the order and approached the High Court against. Following this, the Governor issued show cause notice to the VCs.
The dead line to submit the explanation was at 5 pm, on Monday. The Vice Chancellors explained that their appointments are as per the direction of UGC and there were no violation of rules. Raj Bhavan will conduct hearing of the Vice Chancellors and further steps will be taken accordingly.
Recently, the Supreme Court had pronounced a verdict that the appointments, that were done against the norms stipulated by University Grants Commission is illegal and “void ab initio”. The Governor asked the Vice Chancellors to tender resignations based on the SC verdict.
