Thiruvananthapuram: Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has been removed from the post of Chancellor of Kerala Kalamandalam. An order in this regard has been issued by the Department of Culture. The state government has the power to appoint the chancellor in Kalamandalam. The Cultural Department used this power to remove the Governor from the post of Chancellor.
The Pro-Chancellor will hold the charge until the new Chancellor takes charge. Kalamandalam is the deemed University. State Cultural Minister V N Vasavan is currently the Pro Vice Chancellor of Kalamandalam University.
The government’s move is a continuation of the ongoing dispute between the governor and the government. The governor has to sign the government ordinance to remove the governor. The ordinance to remove the Governor will not be sent to the Raj Bhavan today as the Legal Affairs Secretary is on leave.
Higher Education Minister R Bindu had said that if the governor withdraws the ordinance, she will bring the matter as a bill in the assembly.
