Bangalore: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the 108 feet statue of Nadaprabhu Kempe Gowda, the founder of modern Bangalore. This is known as the statue of prosperity.
The statue weighs 220 tons. It is made of 98 tons of bronze and 120 tons of steel. It also has a 4 ton sword. As per the World Book of Records, it is the first and tallest bronze statue of the founder of Bangalore city.
The statue has been made as a tribute to his services that he had done for the development of the city. Nadaprabhu Kempe Gowda was a ruler under the Vijayanagara Empire. He is a great personality who founded the city, Bengaluru in 1537. He also removed some of the cruel customs that prevailed in that society. One among that was Bandi Devaru. It was a practice in which a widowed woman cut off her left hand fingers.
