Chennai: Heavy rains in Tamil Nadu. Flood alerts have been issued for Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram. 4,230 cubic meters of water was released from Vaigai Dam in Theni.
Apart from this, water was released from the Red Hills Lake. As part of this, the Tiruvallur district administration has declared a red alert in 11 villages. 500 cusecs of water was released as heavy rains continued in the catchment area. Efforts are on to resolve the waterlogging in the low-lying areas of Chennai. Due to the overflowing of rivers, various parts of Chennai were flooded.
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning against fishing in southern Andhra Pradesh, northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry coasts and southwest coasts. Holidays have been given to educational institutions in 23 districts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai. 8.4 cm of rain was recorded in Chennai on November 1. This is the highest rate in the last 30 years.
