Mumbai: Customs with a huge gold hunt at the Mumbai airport. Customs seized 61 kg of gold from two cases today alone. Seven passengers including two women were arrested in connection with the incident.
For the first time, customs seized gold worth Rs 32 crore at Mumbai airport. The gold was found from four passengers who came from Tanzania. Customs informed that they were carrying gold biscuits weighing one kg. All four are Indian citizens.
The gold biscuits were kept in a specially designed belt with many pockets. 53 kg of gold was recovered from the inspection of the four-member team. They had gold worth Rs 28.17 crore.
A gold belt was handed over to them by a Sudanese citizen from Doha airport. Then they got caught by the customs when they reached Mumbai on Qatar Airways from Doha. They had gold biscuits made in the UAE. After the arrest, they were produced in court. All four accused have been remanded in 14-day judicial custody.
After the four-member gang was arrested, three more passengers were caught by customs with eight kilograms of gold worth Rs 4.08 crore.
