Thiruvananthapuram: The recommendation of the expert committee is to increase the price of Milma milk by Rs.6 to Rs.10. An interim report of the study conducted by experts from the Agricultural and Veterinary Universities has been submitted to the government.
According to the report of the expert committee, the loss faced by farmers in the state is Rs 8.57 per litre of milk. The recommendation is to increase the price to cover this loss. The committee suggested three different methods of rate increase.
Farmers with less than four cows are currently spending Rs 49.05 to produce one litre of milk and farmers with 4 to 10 cows are currently spending Rs 46.68 to produce one litre of milk. The two-member committee clarified that the increase is necessary as it will face a loss of Rs 37.76.
