New Delhi: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar will attend the FIFA World Cup opening ceremony in Qatar. The two-day visit is as per the invitation of the ruler of Qatar, Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that Dhankhar will visit Qatar on November 20-21.
After attending the opening ceremony of the World Cup, he will interact with the Indian diaspora in Qatar. The Ministry of External Affairs explained that it should be an opportunity to acknowledge the role and support played by Indians in the World Cup. The Ministry said that India-Qatar relations are strong in the fields of trade, energy, security, health, culture, education and defence.
2023 will mark 50 years of India-Qatar diplomatic relations. Qatar plays a major role in India’s energy sector. India is a major partner in the food security of the Gulf countries.
