New Delhi: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma will meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the wake of firing on the Assam-Meghalaya border. It is demanded that the incident be investigated by CBI or NIA.
An Assam Forest Department official and five people from Meghalaya were killed in the firing on the border last day. A dispute over the cutting of trees from the border led to the shootout. The Assam Police had caught the smugglers. The conflict broke out when people surrounded the office of the forest department demanding their release.
The Meghalaya government has cancelled mobile internet services in seven districts of the state in the wake of the incident. The government claims that social media is used to disrupt law and order and that is why it has been banned. It has also warned that strict action will be taken against those who violate the order.
