Thiruvananthapuram: The welfare pension that has been due for the last two months will be distributed in the second week of December. The department of finance has allotted Rs. 1800 crore for the distribution. The amount of October and November will be given at a stretch in December. The finance department’s intervention is in the wake of report aired by Janam TV , revealing the pending issue of the welfare pension.
It is also decided that the pension amount of the month of December will be distributed in the month end itself. Pension distribution was pending due as the Government is facing extreme financial straits.
During the first term of the Pinarayi Government, welfare pension was distributed in Onam or Christmas, at a stretch in three or four months. Decision on monthly distribution was then taken in view of vote banks at last election. Criticism was up as the Government was taking un appropriate decisions.
Welfare pension of Rs. 1600 is given to 60 lakh people every month.
