New Delhi: Navy chief Admiral R Harikumar has said that the Indian Navy will become self-sufficient by 2047. About 3,000 people have been appointed into the Navy under the Agniveer scheme. He said that 341 of them are women. For the first time in history, women are being made part of the Navy.
He mentioned that the Indian Navy has achieved high operational efficiency and has given greater importance to maritime security. The Navy chief said that the government has given clear guidelines on self-sufficiency and has assured that the Indian Navy will become self-sufficient by 2047.
He also said that the Navy is keeping a strong vigil on the movements of Chinese military and research ships in the Indian Ocean region. Last year was an important time for the Navy. He also mentioned that history has been created by commissioning INS Vikrant.
