The incident of raping foreigner woman in Kovalam: Verdict will be out today

Thiruvananthapuram: The verdict in the case of rape and murder of a foreigner at Kovalam will be out today. The Additional Sessions court, Thiruvananthapuram, convicted two persons, Umesh and Udayakumar over this incident. They found guilty on the murder, rape, drug use and destructing evidence.

The incident took place on 1st February 2018. The lady had come to the Ayurveda centre in Pothankod for Ayurvedic treatment. The woman went to Kovalam on 14th February and later went missing. After a month, her body was found from a forest. The DNA test confirmed the dead body belongs to the foreign lady. The police got information that the two accused were regularly coming to the bush to use drugs. After this, they were taken into custody and after being interrogated they confessed the crime.

The accused said that brought the foreign woman to a deserted Ponta forest, raped her and strangled her to death.

The prosecution will seek maximum punishment for the accused. The accused were arrested
by a  special team led by Thiruvananthapuram Range IG, Manoj Abraham.
