Thiruvananthapuram: An amendment bill to remove the governor from the position of chancellor of universities is in the assembly today. The bill aims to remove the governor from the post of chancellor of all 14 universities in the state. The explanation is that the legislation is to remove the governor from the responsibility not mentioned in the constitution.
The bill also explains that the change is to avoid the difficulty of carrying more responsibility for the governor who has constitutional status.
The governor had earlier given permission to introduce the bill. The Governor gave his assent to the English translation of the bill. This is because the introduction of the bill in English translation requires prior approval of the Governor.
But the opposition will strongly oppose the bill. The Muslim League has a different approach to the governor than the Congress. The opposition has also moved to bring the price hike in the state as an urgent motion notice in the assembly.
