Colombia: Indian athlete Meerabai Chanu won silver in the World Weightlifting Championship. She won silver for India by lifting a total of 200 kg in the competition held in Bogota, Colombia. The competition was in the 49 kg category.
Meerabai Chanu gave a good performance despite her wrist injury. She was able to lift 87 kg in snatch and 113 kg in clean and jerk.
The 2022 World Championships are the first qualifiers for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Under the 2024 Olympic qualification rules, the lifter must compete at the 2023 World Championships and the 2024 World Cup. Also should participate in the 2022 World Championships, 2023 Continental Championships, 2023 Grand Prix 1, 2023 Grand Prix 2 and 2024 Continental Championships.
In 2017, Chanu won gold in the World Championships. Chanu’s gold was a national record. She lifted a total of 194 kg including 85 kg in snatch and 109 kg in clean and jerk.
