Alappuzha: Newborn baby and mother died after cesarean in Alappuzha Medical College. Ramjith’s wife Aparna (21) and their child, a resident of Kainakari Kaithara, died. With this, relatives have come forward alleging medical malpractice.
The family alleged that there were no senior doctors to provide emergency treatment and that led to the death of the mother and baby. The family has lodged a complaint with the police.
Aparna was admitted to the hospital for delivery on Monday. On Tuesday evening, she was shifted to the labor room due to pain. The family alleged that doctors were not present during the delivery and the surgery was conducted by the students. Doctors said the cause of death was overdose of anaesthesia.
Hospital superintendent Dr. A. Abdulsalam was in charge. Ambalapuzha police also recorded the statement of Aparna’s relatives. Health Minister Veena George has ordered an inquiry into the matter. The Minister directed the Director of Medical Education Department to form an expert committee and conduct an investigation and submit a report.
