Kochi: The State Government has today faced a big setback from the High Court over the PPE kit scam. Government’s plea to cancel the procedures of the Lokayuktha has been dismissed by the HC. Hence, Lokayuktha can go on with the enquiry against the team including former health minister K K Shylaja.
The Department of Health had purchased PPE kits at a price of Rs. 1,550 per unit, which actually costs Rs. 500 in the open market then. A complaint was filed against 11 people including K K Shylaja and Health Secretary Rajan Khobragade.
The State Government had purchased 50,000 PPE kits on 30 March 2020, from the private company Sun Pharma, at the cost of Rs. 1,550 per piece, when the actual price in the market was only Rs. 500 per unit. Now the Lokayuktha has got green signal from the High Court to continue their probe over the complaint on the PPE kit scam.
