Idukki: Water level in Mullaperiyar Dam has reached 141 feet. Following this, Tamil Nadu has issued a second phase of alert. At present the water level in the dam is 141.05 feet and the maximum allowable storage capacity of the dam is 142 feet.
The reason for the rise in the water level is the heavy rainfall and increased water flow in the catchment area of the dam. At present, Tamil Nadu is carrying only 511 cubic feet of water per second.
As the water level has risen, the state has demanded to Tamil Nadu that more water be taken. In the background of the rising water level, alert has been issued on Periyar coast. When the water level reaches 142 feet, the authorities will take steps to raise the spillway shutters and drain the water.
