Thiruvananthapuram: The price of liquor will increase in the state from January 2023. Governor signs bill to increase alcohol sales tax. By raising the price of liquor, the sales tax will increase by 4 percent. The increase in sales tax is to avoid the loss of turnover tax.
The last time liquor prices were increased in the state was in February 2021. A bottle of liquor increased from Rs 10 to Rs 90 that day. The government has increased the base price by 7 percent. The increase was in such a way that a bottle of liquor would be increased by Rs 40 while the government would get Rs 35. Liquor companies will get Rs 4 and Bevco will get Re 1.
With the increase last year, the selling price of liquor bought from foreign liquor manufacturers for Rs 100, including tax and profit, was Rs 1,170. Of this, Rs 1,049 was received by the government and Rs 21 by Bevco.
