Thiruvananthapuram: 59 police officers involved in serious crimes will be dismissed from service. 58 more officers will have to be dismissed, reported DGP Anil Kant in the report of the dismissal pf P R Sunu, an inspector of Beypore Coastal Police Station. The report has been conditionally approved by Law Secretary Hari Nair.
The list includes those involved in offenses punishable by imprisonment for life or up to ten years. Officers who have committed offenses punishable by less than seven years are temporarily exempted. Meanwhile, action will be taken only after hearing the part of the officers included in the list.
P R Sunu, who is currently under suspension, will be dismissed first. The file to dismiss him from service is under the consideration of the Chief Minister. There are currently 828 accused in criminal cases in the police force of the state. There is also criticism that most of them are under the protection of political parties.
