Kochi: In many parts of the state, the World Cup final celebration has crossed its limit. Cops were assaulted during football celebrations in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram. A police officer was brutally beaten up by a gang of drunkards in Kochi. It is reported that a five-member group who came to watch the Argentina-France World Cup final match on the big screen is behind the violence. The assailants dragged the policeman along the road after pushing him to the ground and kicking him. Civil police officer Libin Raj of Palarivattom police station was beaten up. He has been admitted to the hospital. Two people named Arun and Sarath were arrested in connection with the incident.
In Thiruvananthapuram, SI Saji was beaten up by a gang of alcoholics at Pozhiyoor. The officers asked the drunkards to leave but they refused to do so. Then there occurred an argument between the two groups. The officer was assaulted while trying to apprehend the assailants. Justin, a native of Parassala, who was part of the gang, was arrested. The injured SI is undergoing treatment at Parassala Taluk Hospital. His hand and head were injured.
SI was beaten up in the violence in Thalassery. SI Manoj was beaten up after questioning the youth who went on a bike celebrating the victory. He is currently undergoing treatment. It is reported that the attackers have been taken into custody. The police said that their arrest will be registered soon.
