New Delhi: According to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream plan, PM Awaas Yojana, the Central Government has allotted 1 crore 20 lakh houses in cities only. Union Minister of State for Urban Affairs Kaushal Kishore clarified this in Parliament. He also stated that 2,285 houses have been allocated for the transgender community under the scheme.
1 crore 12 lakh houses were planned to be made under the scheme. Houses are provided under the scheme to sanitation workers, Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, Minorities, specially abled, Transgenders, Widows, Women etc. The Minister also stated in the Rajya Sabha that the houses were allotted considering the applications given by various local bodies.
Out of the allotted, 65.5 lakh houses, either complete its construction or the keys have been handed over. The minister also said that the construction of all 1.06 crore houses is in progress.
Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana Urban is a scheme launched by the Prime Minister on 25 June 2015 with the idea of constructing a house for all the urban residents of the country. Houses are being built with basic facilities including electricity, water and toilets.
