Delhi: BJP leader and Union Minister Smriti Irani has asked whether Rahul Gandhi will seek the mandate from Amethi Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh. Smriti Irani’s reaction comes after the UP Congress leader Ajay Rai’s anti-women statement. Ajay Rai’s anti-feminist remark that Smriti Irani was ignoring Amethi constituency has made a huge controversy. Smriti Irani asked if Rahul Gandhi would be ready to contest from Amethi in the 2024 election pointing at this remark.
‘Rahul Gandhi.., I heard that one of your local leaders announced in not so polite language that you will seek a constituency from Amethi in 2024 Lok Sabha elections. May I assure you that you too will be there to compete in Amethi this time? You will not contest from a second seat this time, right? Is there no fear in this matter? One more thing, find new people to write speeches for you and your mother”, Smriti Irani tweeted.
Amethi is the constituency of the Gandhi family and Rahul Gandhi has been elected as the People’s Representative from there. Rajiv Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi served as MPs from Amethi. Now most of the factories in Amethi are on the verge of closure. Along with saying that Congress workers want Rahul Gandhi to contest in 2024 elections, Ajay Rai also made anti-feminist remarks against Smriti Irani. Later, the BJP strongly criticized the anti-women attitude of the Congress.
