Kochi: 5G service will begin in the state from today. From Tuesday onwards, it will be available in the selected areas under the Kochi Municipal Corporation. Services are provided by Reliance Jio. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate 5G online. After the inauguration at a private hotel in Kochi, there will be a detailed presentation on the changes that 5G will bring in the education, medical and employment sectors.

Select people in select areas will get 5G on a trial run for the next few days. After that, 5G will reach more people in more selected places. 5G is expected to deliver data up to 10 times faster than 4G. Those who have a 5G phone can get 5G by changing the settings on the phone and there is no need to change the SIM card.

Last day, the Central Government released the list of 50 cities in the country where 5G service is available. Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities across 14 states and Union Territories will receive 5G service for the first time. From Kerala Kochi was there on the list.

The first 5G service was launched in the country on 1st October, last year. In the first phase, the service was made available in eight major cities. Later, 5G services were extended to more cities by the end of November.
