Idukki: The vehicle of Sabarimala pilgrims overturned in Idukki. Eight pilgrims died. The deceased were Ayyappa devotees from Tamil Nadu.
Ten people including a child were in the vehicle. The injured were admitted to a hospital in Kumily. It is reported that the condition of one of them is serious. The accident took place on the Kumily-Kambam road. The vehicle went out of control and fell down from the bridge on the Kottarakkara Dindigul National Highway. The car fell on top of one of the penstocks carrying water from Mullaperiyar to Tamil Nadu.
A seven-year-old boy in the van was expelled when it hit the bridge. Then the Kumily Police, Tamil Nadu Police and Fire Force conducted a joint rescue operation. The initial conclusion is that the cause of the accident may be overspeed or the driver fell asleep.
