Ernakulam: Kochi is gearing up for New Year’s Eve celebrations. For the first time in history, the people of Kochi are preparing to celebrate the New Year by building a sixty-foot-tall Christmas papa. After two years, Papa is getting ready again in Kochi.
The people of Kochi welcome the New Year by burning away all the sorrows of a year with Papa. More than 6 lakh rupees are spent for a 60 feet long Christmas papa. Papaji is burnt at the end of Kochi Carnival which lasts for more than twenty days. Many people, including from abroad, come to Fort Kochi for the New Year celebration.
