Kochi: Prominent Popular Front leaders have been arrested in a widespread raid by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). It is reported that three persons, including state leader Zulfi, were arrested from Vitura and brought to Kochi. NIA arrested Zulfi, his brother Sudhir and Saleem from Karamana.
The NIA is continuing its search in the PFI centres in the state, which were banned earlier due to terror links. Meanwhile, the news that the leaders escaped hours before the raid in Pathanamthitta was said to be because of the leakage of information. It is being evaluated as the result of an irresponsible action from the side of the Kerala Police.
Apart from the assassinations of RSS leaders Alappuzha Ranjith and Palakkad Srinivasan, the PFI was preparing detailed assassination and communal riot plans. The NIA also informed that Islamic fundamentalists are active through several sleeping cells in the state. The new raids are based on the information obtained from the interrogation of the arrested leaders from the state collected earlier. The raids will continue, said the NIA.
