Thiruvananthapuram: Following the tragic death of the woman who died after food poisoning, massive search has been held at the hotels of the State. Out of 429 hotels where the inspection was conducted, 22 shops were made closed. License of 21 firms has been cancelled and notice issued for 86 shops. The food safety department issued notice to 52 shops, asking for improving the quality.
Inspections were headed by the food safety commissioner. Eight hotels were made closed in the State capital for functioning in unhygienic conditions and license of three hotels cancelled. In Malappuram, license of eight hotels was cancelled.
Health Minister Veena George has informed that directions were given to impose criminal offence to those who adulterate food or sell stale food.
Meanwhile, it was found that the hotel Buhari, located at Attakkulangara, is unhygienic and does not have purchase license. Earlier too, Buhari was sealed several times for violating food safety measures. Buhari laborers blocked the officers who reached there to seal the hotel. However, the food safety department has decided to strengthen their inspection in the coming days too.
