Mumbai: The laws in Indian Penal Code are not applicable to the cases that include pets like dogs and cats, observed the Mumbai High Court. The HC issued the order by ignoring a case registered by the police against a swiggy food delivery boy who was alleged to have killed a dog by hitting his vehicle.
HC clarified that though some humans consider their pets as children or family members, they are not biologically equal to human beings. The order comes from a bench including Bombay HC justices Mohithe Dere and Prithviraj Chavan.
IPC section 279 and 337 are all applicable only to the misdeeds against humans. Court also said that hence such laws are not applicable to pets and other animals.
