Sabarimala Makaravilakku preparations; Police high level meeting today

Thiruvananthapuram: A high level meeting of the police officers will be held today here in the State capital to evaluate the security arrangements for Sabarimala Makaravilakku. In the meeting headed by the ADGP, SPs of Idukki, Pathanamthitta and Kottayam will take part.

Record number of devotees came to Sabarimala in this season after Covid pandemic and lock down. More devotees are expected in the hill temple in connection with Makara vilakku, the annual festival.

The main agenda of today’s high level meeting will be to assure the security of the traditional path.

Meanwhile, the preparations for Makara vilakku will be started today. Thousands of devotees will throng at the hill shrine to see a glimpse of flame, the Makara vilakku, that appears thrice on the Ponnambalamedu hill, kilometers away from the temple.

Barricades to avoid over crowded situation, water and light facility will be ensured. Police will be deployed in the areas where devotees reach to see Makarajyothy.

Makara vilakku will be observed on 14 January. Virtual queue booking is already completed till 14th.
