Thiruvananthapuram: As deaths were reported due to food poisoning, mayonnaise made of raw eggs will be omitted from the bakeries and restaurants in the State. Vegetarian mayonnaise will be served instead. The decision was taken at the emergency meeting of Bakers Association Kerala( BAKE) held in Kochi today.
BAKE will support inspections to assure good quality food. Association President Vijesh Viswanath and General Secretary Royal Naushad told that the decision to omit egg mayonnaise was taken so as to support the positive attempts of the State Government.
Non vegetarian mayonnaise is the side dish served along with Alfaham, kuzhimandi and shawarma. At present, there is no scale or criteria to check the quality and expiry of eggs used in the mayonnaise. This side dish may have the presence of bacteria if kept in unhygienic conditions. BAKE also shared their concern over the heath hazards of non veg mayonnaise.
