Thiruvananthapuram: CPI leader Pannyan Raveendran slams sports minister V. Abdurahiman, for the reduced number of audience in the Kariyavattam stadium during India-Sri Lanka ODI match held lastday. Pannyan, who said that he had directly seen the after effect of the minister’s statement, also added saying that this situation is deplorable.
Pannyan Raveendran said that the Minister’s statement not only made a loss to the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) but also to the Government. If International matches shift the venue, the loss would be for the sports lovers too.
The KCA said the Minister’s statement, “those who cannot afford need not come to watch the match”, adversely affected the match. Jayesh George, the president of the KCA, had admitted this in public. Bineesh Kodiyeri, the Joint secretary of the association, said that missing the match is a loss for the fans.
Last day, only 6000 people reached the stadium, which has a seating capacity of 40,000 people. The former Indian players, including Yuvraj Singh, have come forward expressing their surprise over the incident.
