PALAKKAD: The special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court has sent Shahrukh Saifi, the accused in Elathur train arson case to judicial custody till May 27. The accused was produced before NIA court on yesterday afternoon and was then sent to judicial custody. The NIA had conducted inspection across 10 places in Delhi related to the case. Shahrukh Saifi’s house in Shaheen Bagh and the nearby areas were raided by NIA and digital gadgets were seized. The documents seized from the house of the accused have been sent for examination by NIA.
Meanwhile, NIA have found out that the accused Shahrukh Saifi had been following radical Islamic preachers like Zakir Naik, Pakistanis Tariq Jamil, Israr Ahmed and Taimoor Ahmed on social media. The inspections were conducted at ten places in Delhi following the details received during interrogation and the phone details.
During the first stage of investigation, the NIA had questioned those who were close to the accused and collected details from them. NIA had earlier conducted inspection in Kozhikode and Kannur. Shahrukh Saifi had admitted in the preliminary interrogation itself that he had set fire to the passengers on the train after proper planning. NIA had intensified the probe into the terror links of the accused.
