Calicut: Two men were arrested for smuggling gold worth Rs. 1 crore 15 lakh from Karipur International Airport. The gold was seized by the customs from Morgalputhur native Riaz Ahmed, and Narikkuni native Suhail. They both were attempting to smuggle the gold in capsule form.
Two Kilograms of gold worth Rs. 1 crore 20 lakh were seized from Mannarkkad native Muhammad Sharif and Karuvarakund native Safwan on the previous day at Karipur International Airport.
Customs seized the gold alloy weighing 1,061 grams from Muhammad Sharif and 1,159 grams from Safwan in the form of capsules. Both of them came from Jeddah. According to the customs officials, Safwan received a payment of Rs. 50,000 and Sharif received a payment of Rs. 80,000 for smuggling the gold.
