Kozhikode: A group of house surgeons got into an altercation on Saturday, which led to dramatic scenes at the Government General Hospital, also known as the Beach Hospital. A dispute reportedly broke out after a house surgeon questioned one of his peers about the delay in reporting for duty.
According to reports, the altercation that started at the casualty continued inside the room of the house surgeons. Doctors on casualty duty had to step in to manage the situation.
According to information, the Saturday night conflict, which began around 7 p.m. and lasted for almost 30 minutes, left the patients of casualty, waiting. There were over 30 patients forced to wait in the emergency room, including several who complained of chest pain and dizziness as well as a housewife who hurt her knee. The house surgeons shut the door to the room and turned out the lights when the people, who were with the patients tried to intervene.
The hospital administration denied the reports of delay in the treatment of the patients at casualty. However, they offered to launch a thorough inquiry into the altercation.
