THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The selection on the logo for the upcoming 69th Nehru Trophy Boat Race (NTBR) at Punnamada backwaters on August 12, 2023, has sparked widespread criticism and trolling. With over 500 entries, allegations are being made that some of the best designs have been overlooked.
Several critics on social media are pointing out that the symbol of a baby elephant standing on top of a boat with a paddle, which was introduced in 2016, has been brought back in 2023 with minor changes.
Despite the worldwide attention that the Nehru Trophy Boat Race attracts, boat race enthusiasts and artists are expressing dissatisfaction with the logo’s quality and the lack of updates to reflect the current times.
The logo-mascot was presented to the Alappuzha District Collector and NTBR Society Chairperson, Haritha V Kumar, by Kuttanad MLA Thomas K. Thomas and film-serial actress Gayathri Arun.
The controversy continues to grow as many question the decision-making process and call for a more creative and relevant logo for the prestigious event.
