Alappuzha: In a shocking incident of medical negligence, a woman has passed away after giving birth to a child. The deceased, Rajitha (33), was the wife of Nidhish and a resident of Kumarakam. She gave birth last Thursday at the Alappuzha Women and Children Hospital and was subsequently transferred to Vandanam Medical College for further treatment. Unfortunately, yesterday afternoon, while undergoing treatment, Rajitha succumbed to her condition.
Relatives have alleged that the cause of her death was a mistake in the anesthesia administered at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. They also claim that the hospital’s doctor had promised to cover the cost of Rajitha’s injections. Rajitha gave birth at eight o’clock in the morning, but she suffered a heart attack soon after delivery. Hospital authorities then advised her relatives to shift her to the medical college hospital.
Rajitha was shifted to the hospital by an ambulance with ventilator facility from the medical college. Examinations at the medical college revealed her condition to be very critical, with impairments to her brain and heart function. Rajitha remained on a ventilator for four days.
Following Rajitha’s tragic death, her relatives staged a protest against the doctors at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. They also announced their intention to submit a formal petition to the Health Minister. Meanwhile, Dr. Deepti, the Superintendent of the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, informed that there was no failure in the treatment and attributed Rajitha’s death to a heart attack following the delivery operation.
