Bengaluru, amidst escalating tensions surrounding the Cauvery river water dispute, witnessed a disturbance as Kannada activists disrupted a press conference being conducted by actor Siddharth. The incident occurred just ahead of the scheduled Karnataka bandh on September 29. Siddharth was in Bengaluru on Thursday to promote the Kannada-dubbed version of his Tamil film “Chithha.”

The activists expressed their discontent, questioning Siddharth and the attending reporters about holding a film-related event while the Kannada Film Chamber had extended its support to the upcoming bandh. Despite the activists’ intrusion, the actor maintained his composure and continued to seek support for his film in the Kannada language.

“We have been fighting for the last 15 days. While our water is being sent to Tamil Nadu, is it right for a Tamil actor to come and promote his film here?,” added the activists. Owing to the pressure,Siddharth thanked the reporters and walked out of the press conference.

In a related development, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced on Wednesday, September 27, that the state would challenge the Cauvery Water Regulatory Committee’s directive to release 3,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu from September 28 to October 15 in the Supreme Court. However, the Supreme Court declined to intervene in the orders issued by the Cauvery Water Management Authority and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee on Thursday. This decision triggered widespread protests throughout the state.
